The advantage of using hydrogels is plain to see. They can easily be adjusted with regards to elasticity and stiffness. Synthetic as well as functional hydrogels are best suited for encapsulation of cells and drugs.
Scaffold-free systems give you the ability to investigate 3D cell models without having effects of external matrix proteins, if this is suitable for your application. Scaffold-free 3D models can be produced using the hanging drop technology, liquid overlay technology or magnetic 3D bioprinting techniques.


Hydrogels for 3D Cell Culture

“The effect of matrix stiffness on the phenotype and differentiation pathway of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) that differentiated to neural, myogenic, or osteogenic phenotypes depending on the elasticity and stiffness of the 3D culture matrix. Stiffer gels favored an osteogenic phenotype while softer gels favored a neural phenotype and aligned scaffolds enable basic research into cell behavior” (Pek et al. (2010)).

The Hyaluronic Acid Scaffolds comes in a 96 wellformat and are packed as 12, 24 or 96 wells. To use the product you only need to seed your cells on top of the scaffolds and to wait for 1 hour. Then you can add your medium to the well and incubate the 3D cell cultures in your incubator. Celenys has established protocols for nucleic acid extraction, protein extraction and fluorescence labelling. It is also easy to recover the cells after culture in Biomimesys.

Already many cell lines, primary cells and stem cells are used for 3D Cell Culture in Biomimesys.

High throughput just got faster with our 384 well format! 1536 well format on its way

Our partner n3D Biosciences, offers products centered around their core technology of magnetic 3D cell culture. This process begins with the magnetization of cells by statically incubating them with NanoShuttleTM-PL overnight. The next day, the cells can be aggregated with magnetic forces, either by levitation or printing, to form structurally and biologically representative 3D models in vitro. The advantages of magnetic cell culture include:

• Rapid (15 min – 6 h) 3D model formation for high throughput
• No specialized equipment, media, or artificial substrate
• Magnetization of 3D models makes it easy to handle/retrieve
• Dark nanoparticles make tissues easy to visualize and image
• No effect of NanoShuttleTM-PL on viability, proliferation, inflammatory stress
• No interference of NanoShuttleTM-PL on fluorescence or other experimental techniques (Western blotting, qRT-PCR, viability, etc.)

The Bio Assay combines 3D Cell Culture with high throughput & high content testing.
Compounds effects (shrinkage of shperoids) are captured using a compact imaging kit (n3Dock) with an iPodTM programmed by a freely available app (Experimental Assistant) to image whole plates at specific intervals.
